“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing his praise in the congregation of the faithful” Psalm 149:1
Music is the soul and spirit of the worship service. It is through music that people’s hearts are touched; their souls are stirred; their hopes are lifted. We offer a blended musical style in worship rather than choosing between traditional or contemporary feelings that each style of music can stir and strengthen us in our faith journey. The music ministry program at First Lutheran encompasses the adult choir, Celebration Singers hight school choir, youth and adult hendbell choirs and an instrumental program. The adult choir leads worship every Sunday morning from September through June. Our 90 voice choir becomes three smaller choirs on Sunday morning to lead each service of worship. The entire choir comes together for the Advent Lessons and Carols in December and the Gallery of Living Art Passion Play during lent. Adults may also participate in one of three handbell choirs. Silver Bells is a retired group of adults who practice on Thursday mornings. The Joy Ringers is an intermediate choir and the Carillon Ringers is an advanced choir. All three handbell choirs participate in Sunday morning worship and in community handbell festivals. First Lutheran youth participate in music as part of the Sunday Church School program. They can also participate in the youth handbell choirs and Celebration Singers. Rainbow Ringers is our beginning handbell choir for children in grades 3 to 6. Jubilate Ringers is our intermediate choir for youth in grades 6 to 8 (approximately). The Celebration Ringers is the high school advanced choir. The youth handbell choirs participate in Sunday morning worship during the Fall and Spring. The Celebration Singers is a new group youth in 8th grade through high school. They sing for the Sunday evening worship the first Sunday of each month. All of the youth music groups, including Sunday school, participate in the Sunday Evening Celebration for families held in November, February and May. Our organist and instrumental director, Evan Becker, organizes and works with instrumentalists in our congregation. He also directs our Men’s and Women’s ensembles. Our music ministry program extends a warm welcome to all members, friends and visitors of First Lutheran. We invite you to come, make music to the Lord, bless his name; and proclaim the good news of his salvation from day to day. (Psalm 96) Soli Deo Gloria (To God be the Glory) |
